Below is the post coined from his instagram post:

FG responds to Obasanjo’s criticism of Buhari administration

The federal government has responded to the scathing criticisms launched by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on the Muhammadu-Buhari administration. While describing the ex-president as a patriot, the minister of information stated that the Buhari govt has made key accomplishments in the area of revamping the economy, and not just fighting corruption and tackling the insurgency.
The minister went ahead to outline these key accomplishments, which he described as ‘phenomenal’, including in the area of agriculture and infrastructural development
The Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government has issued a formal response to the attack on the president by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, NAN reports.
The federal government gave its response on Wednesday, January 24, via the minister of information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
According to Mohammaed, the Buhari administration had received Obasanjo’s message in good faith. Royalpizzle_Media notes that the minister further thanked the ex-president for his “positive comments”, even as he proceeded to set the record straight.
The full statement read: “We have read the press statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the State of the Nation.

For the record, Chief Obasanjo is a patriot, and he has proven this time and time again. We appreciate what he said concerning the administration’s performance in two out of the three key issues that formed the plank of its campaign: Fighting corruption and tackling insurgency.
“Specifically, the former president said President Buhari must be given credit for his achievement so far in these two areas. We thank him for this.
“Apparently, the former president believes that the administration does not deserve a pass mark in the area of the economy, which is the third of our three-pronged campaign promises.
“We have no doubt that in the face of massive challenges in this area, this administration has availed itself creditably.
“We believe that Chief Obasanjo, because of his very busy schedule, may not have been fully availed of developments in the government’s efforts to revamp the economy, which was battered by the consequences of over-dependence on a commodity as well as unprecedented pillaging of the treasury.
“Today, most of the indices by which an economy is measured are looking up. Permit me to say, however, that Nigeria would not have exited recession through a mere order or if the administration had not made use of good Nigerians who could help.
“This Administration is making steady progress in its determined effort to revamp the economy, and the results are showing:
* Foreign Reserves have peaked at $40b, the highest level in about four years, and up from $24 billion just a year ago, even though when we came in, the price of oil had crashed woefully.
* According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBC), headline inflation has fallen for 11 consecutive months, standing at 15.37% as at December 2017. This is the lowest inflation rate since Jan 2017, and it has met and surpassed the target set for inflation in the administration’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).
* Our determined implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has stopped the hemorrhaging of the treasury. Some 108 billion Naira has been saved from removal of maintenance fees payable to banks, pre-TSA. The nation is being saved 24.7 billion Naira monthly with the full implementation of the TSA.
* The elimination of ghost workers has saved the nation 120 billion Naira
* At about 1.8 billion dollars, the capital inflows in the second quarter of 2017 were almost double the $908 million in the first quarter.
* In the wake of a stable Naira and increased investment inflows, Nigeria’s stock market emerged one of the best-performing in the world, delivering returns in excess of 40 percent.
* Nigeria rose 24 places on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business ranking, and earned a place on the List of Top 10 Reformers in the world.
* According to Q3 2017 figures, agriculture export is up year-on-year by 25%, solid minerals exports are up year-on-year by 78%, raw materials exports are up 70% year-on-year and manufactured goods exports are up 22% year-on-year.
* Government agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service are reporting highest-ever revenue collection, while JAMB, under the new management appointed by President Buhari in 2016, remitted N7.8 billion to the coffers of the federal government. The total amount remitted by JAMB between 2010 and 2016 was a paltry N51 million!
“These positive indices may not have immediately impacted positively on Nigerians, but Nigerians will definitely get a new lease of life a short while from now.
“This is because the good news from the agricultural sector, which is recording a bumper harvest, will bring down the cost of foodstuffs, especially such staple as rice, and our massive Social Investment Programme will ease the pain of the most vulnerable in the society.
“When we assumed office in 2015, some 6 million farmers were involved in rice production. Thanks to the Anchor Borrowers’ programme of this administration, we have grown that number to over 12 million farmers.
“The result is that our rice import from Thailand alone has dropped from 644 metric tonnes to 22,000 MT in just two years. This is phenomenal.
"Apart from rice, Nigeria is also doing well in other grains, especially Millet, Sorghum and Maize. We are now the second largest producer of sorghum after the US, the third in millet after India and our breweries are now enjoying local sourcing of those commodities.
“For maize, we are producing 10 million tons while we need about 13 million tons for both human and animal nutrition. Nigeria leads the world in the yam and cassava production. We account for 70% of the world’s yam production. In two years, we hope to be the world’s largest exporter of yam!
“Overall, our ambition is that agriculture should rise from 25% to 40% of GDP, so that we can banish poverty and overcome our economic anxiety.
“Our Social Investment Programme is Nigeria’s most ambitious social welfare programme ever. Currently, 5.2 million primary school children in 28,249 schools in 19 states are being fed daily; 200,000 unemployed graduates have enlisted into the N-power Job Scheme, and a quarter of a million loans already distributed to artisans, traders, and farmers.
“Finally, our investment in infrastructure is simply unprecedented. This is because infrastructure is key to faster economic growth and development.
"Here is a synopsis of what we have done in this area:
* Power Generation at an all-time high of 7,000mw and all can be transmitted
* RAIL: Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge is on. Lagos-Ibadan sector ready 2019, Kano-Kaduna ready 2019; The entire stretch ready 2021;
*Negotiations on for Coastal Rail covering 15 cities from Lagos to Calabar.
* ROAD: 25 major highways being funded with the N100b Sukuk Bond, and all geo-political zones are benefiting equally.
“This administration is not unaware of the enormity of the challenges facing the nation, but we are up to the task. We have taken the bull by the horns, and long-suffering Nigerians will begin to experience a new lease of life as our efforts yield fruits. We will not go into a state of funk for whatever reason.
“On the herders/farmers’ clashes, this administration is determined to end the crisis resulting from this once and for all, not minding the fact that the clashes predate us. We urge Nigerians to have faith in the Administration’s ability to resolve the crisis, and to watch out for concrete measures in this regard.
“On whether or not President Muhammadu Buhari should run for another term, it is true that many Nigerians have been calling on the president to run again, while others are opposed to his return.
“However, we believe this issue is a distraction for the president at this time. This is because Mr President spends every waking hour tackling the enormous challenges facing the nation, most of which were bequeathed to his administration by successive past administrations.
“He is committed to fulfilling the mandate given to him by Nigerians in 2015. And that’s where we are right now.
“Finally, we have no reason to believe that former President Obasanjo has any motive beyond the well-being of the nation in issuing his Special Press Statement. We have also taken his admonition in good faith, and we thank him most sincerely for taking time off his busy schedule to pen such a long statement.”

Transfer News! Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho READY To Sign Mesut Ozil From Arsenal

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho is keen on signing midfielder Mesut Ozil from Arsenal.
The Germany international is yet to sign a contract extension at the Emirate Stadium and could be available on a free transfer this summer.
Arsene Wenger has ruled out the prospect of Ozil leaving Arsenal in the January transfer window and the club are reportedly confident that the German will agree to sign a new deal.
But an insider at Old Trafford told The Independent, UK that United will make life difficult for the Gunners as they remain keen on signing Ozil as a free agent at the end of the season
The report also claims that the 29-year-old is demanding a salary in the region of £300,000 a week.
United have already clinched the signing of Alexis Sanchez from the club who was officially unveiled on Monday evening as part of the deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move to Arsenal.
There have been questions about how Mkhitaryan and Ozil will fit in the same team but Wenger is confident that the duo can make it work.
He told reporters, “They [Ozil and Mkhitaryan] can play together,’ said the Arsenal manager
‘How efficient will that work? It will be down to the qualities of both players. ‘
“Mkhitaryan has the qualities to integrate into our game.
“He has a good team attitude. He’s very versatile. He can play in all kinds of positions. ‘He is very versatile and it should help us going forward.
“Henrikh can bring quality of creativity, technical stability and experience.”

Reason Chelsea Did Not Buy Alexis Sanchez From Arsenal’- Antonio Conte Speaks

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has provided real reason the Premier League Club did not bother to battle for the signature of former Arsenal forward, Alexis Sanchez.
Conte said the club could not compete with the wages on offer from Manchester United.
The Chile international officially joined the Red Devils on Monday in a deal which saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan join Arsenal.
The Blues were linked with Sanchez when United were in the advanced stages of the transfer.
The Italian gaffer said the 29-year-old, who is now the highest-paid player in the Premier League, was always out of reach for the Premier League champions.
Conte told reporters, “We never were in this race. Ever.
“Especially because, I repeat, one of the reasons was this amount of salary. Only one or two clubs can pay this type of salary.
“Also, if you want a player, you are faced with this reality. ‘Now it’s not simple to think about doing this [finishing above United or City] because these big teams continue to improve and invest a lot of money.
“Then if you continue to have this type of gap, it’s not only here in England, these two big clubs can become seriously dangerous for other teams in the world.
“These two teams are very strong already and want to invest. ‘I think when you go in the transfer market you have to know that, if you want the best, you have to spend a lot of money. Otherwise you have to go in the middle and spend £20-30 million.”

Gunmen kill NURTW leader’s aide, in Lagos

The personal assistant to Alhaji Kunle Azeez, a leader of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, identified only as Ganiu , has been shot dead by gunmen in the Idumota area of Lagos State.
Royalpizzle_Meadia learnt that Ganiu (aka Piero ), Azeez (aka Kunle Poly ) and some security guards, including two policemen, were returning from a meeting around 12 midnight on Tuesday when the gunmen opened fire on them .
While Ganiu was hit and died on the spot, others sustained varying degrees of injury as they fled from the hail of bullets released by the assailants.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim had been buried in accordance with Islamic rites .
A source said hoodlums from the Agarawu area were suspected to have carried out the attack .
He said , “ Kunle Poly , who heads the NURTW branches in Idumota, called a meeting of all chairmen in motor parks in the area around 12 midnight .
“ When they were done with the meeting,
Kunle Poly , the two poliemen guarding him,
Piero , and one other union member, left for his car , which was parked at a bridge close to the office.
“ Kunle Poly asked Piero to release the car key because he (Kunle Poly ) wanted to drive the car by himself . He asked Piero to go to the passenger’s side. Piero turned to go to the passenger ’s side , while his boss headed towards the driver ’s side. They were all about to enter the car when there was a gunshot .
“ Piero was hit and he died on the spot. The union member with them was hit by another bullet in the hand . The mopols with them wanted to return the gunfire when the gunmen rained bullets on them . They all took cover .
“ Kunle Poly dodged beside the car from where he jumped onto the bridge and escaped to the other side of the road . The two mopols took to their heels. Nobody knew where the shots came from as I speak to you .”
Royalpizzle_Media learnt that there was tension on the Lagos Island when the news of Ganiu ’s death spread .
Security operatives were said to have been deployed in the area as business activities were grounded and residents stayed indoors.
The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Edgal Imohimi , said Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had approved the proscription of union activities on the Lagos Island until the situation improved .
In a statement on Tuesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Habib Haruna, the CP said the decision was made after a meeting with the governor.
“ In view of the crisis rocking the NURTW chapter of the Lagos Island and the insecurity it is creating on the Island , the security council meeting today chaired by the state Governor, Mr . Akinwunmi Ambode, has ordered that union activities be suspended on the Island until further notice.
“ We are also using the opportunity to call on the NURTW leadership in the state that nobody or group of persons or organisations would be allowed to tamper with the peaceful security situation in Lagos State and that the government would not hesitate to proscribe completely all union activities in the state if their members do not obey the laws of the land and ensure that their activities do not amount to breaching the peace,” the CP said .

Okorocha, Wike, Kaduna senator reject cattle colonies

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has said he will not give any land in Imo State to the Federal Government for a cattle colony.
Okorocha also dismissed the speculation that he had adopted the proposed colonies and ceded a part of the state to herders as wicked , unfounded and untrue.
The governor who spoke on Tuesday in Owerri , the state capital, through the state Commissioner for Information, Prof . Nnamdi Obiaraeri , said there was no law , policy, decision, plan, request or intention to cede, allocate or designate any part of Imo State as a cattle colony.
The governor said , “ This information that Imo has ceded a part for the proposed cattle colony is wicked, unfounded and untrue, although it represents the typical product of warped thinking of desperate mischief makers via the social media .
“ Imo people and members of the public are therefore advised to disregard these baseless and laughable rumours.
“ It is unfortunate that manufacturing wicked and capricious lies on an hourly basis has become the hallmark or DNA of desperate opposition politicians in our dear state .”
Also, the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has said the state does not have land for a cattle colony.
Wike, who also declared that his administration would not allow Rivers to be controlled by external forces , insisted that his government would not be drawn into any debate on cattle colonies .
The governor, who spoke on Tuesday when he granted audience to D- Source Connect Group at the Government House in Port Harcourt , said , “We will not allow our state to be controlled by external forces ; we will not be drawn into debates on cattle colonic . We don’t have land for any cattle colony in Rivers State.”
Similarly , the Senator representing Southern Kaduna , Danjuma Laah, on Tuesday asked the Federal Government not to expect any land from the zone for the planned cattle colonies .
Laah said , “ Kaduna South Senatorial Zone and , by extension , the entire Southern Kaduna rejects any attempt to seize more of its lands for the exclusive settlement of herdsmen and their cattle , using state power.
“ Already, there is an existing Cattle Grazing Reserve in Laduga from land taken away from the indigenes of Zangon Kataf and Kachia Local Government Areas dating back decades ago.
“That massive land officially gazetted at 32 ,000 hectaress, (32 ,000 football fields), but which the present Kaduna State Government has expanded to 74 ,000 hectare , was taken from my constituents without compensation till date, as records have it .”
The lawmaker lamented that rather than the Federal Government requesting land for university , industry, it was asking for land for colonies .
“ Ask us for lands to site universities, government institutions etc, we are willing to give out our land in partnership with industrialists , mechanised farmers , estate developers and all positive social and economic endeavours that are of mutual benefits to everyone.
“ No land in Southern Kaduna is free again for the exclusive economic benefit of a group of people who have paid us with mass murder and destruction in scores of our settlements since 2011 for humanely accommodating them and their forebears.”

Helicopter loaded with arms lands in Taraba village, govt says

helicopter suspected to be loaded with arms and ammunition was, last night, reported to have landed in a village called Jibu, located along River Benue , near Ibi, in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State.
Senior Special Assistant to Governor Darius Ishaku on Media and Publicity , Mr. Bala Dan - Abu , told our correspondent that the arms and ammunition were allegedly meant for a militia group that might have been planning an attack on Taraba villages .
“ This system of arms delivery was used prior to the tragic attacks in Agatu communities in Benue State last year, which led to the killings there .
“ When it was reported, nothing was done to trace and arrest the owners of the helicopter.
“ That strategy works for them in Agatu and they are using it again today.
“ This may be another planned militia attacks on the people of Taraba in the offing,” Dan -Abu said .
Member representing Wukari II Constituency in the State House of Assembly , Hon . Josiah Aji, in a telephone interview with The PUNCH on Sunday, said he was also alerted to the development .
Aji said he has since contacted the chairman of Wukari LGA, Hon . Daniel Adi, to be on the alert, while urging the security agencies to launch investigation into the allegation .
When contacted , the Executive Chairman of Wukari LGA, Hon . Daniel Adi, said he was still gathering intelligence on the issue and that he has sent his surveillance team to the area and will get back to our correspondent with detailed report .
A resident of Jibu who pleaded anonymity told our correspondent in a telephone interview that a helicopter had landed in the village in the night, but that the mission of the helicopter had not yet been ascertained .
“ There was rumour recently that arms were being ferried across River Benue in the area to Banteje, a town along Wukari- Jalingo road , but I cannot confirm to you whether a helicopter landed in our village or not, because I have been in Wukari town for the past two days .”
Another resident of Jibu who simply gave his name as Ahmed told our correspondent that he was not aware of any helicopter landing in the village.
“ If a helicopter landed here , it will not be hidden, given the noise associated with helicopters . Maybe I was asleep when when the helicopter landed ,” he said .
Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP . David Misal , dismissed the information as a mere rumour and cautioned against spreading “ fake information” on the social media .
Misal told our correspondent that the Police surveillance team in the area has been directed to get to the roots of the matter.
“ For now, the information remains a mere rumour, but we have our men there . As soon as we have further information about the issue, I will get back to you ,” he said .

Real Madrid defy crisis talk as Barca extend lead to 11 points

Real Madrid moved back into the top four of La Liga by thumping lowly Deportivo La Coruna 7 - 1 on Sunday, with Cristiano Ronaldo ending a miserable run of league form with a late double.
But Barcelona still extended their lead to 11 points – and 19 ahead of Real Madrid – as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez both hit a brace in a 5 - 0 romp at Real Betis.
Ronaldo had only scored four league goals before Sunday ’s clash with third - from-bottom Deportivo , but the Portuguese added Real ’s fifth and sixth with a smart volley and a diving header as they moved back above Villarreal and into the Champions League places .
Villarreal had temporarily taken fourth with a 2 - 1 win over Levante on Saturday after beating Real at the Bernabeu for the first time ever last week .
Gareth Bale and Nacho also bagged braces each side of half- time and Luka Modric curled home a 68 th- minute beauty as Real came back from a shock early deficit , a 23 rd-minute tap - in from Adrian , to romp to an emphatic victory and ease the pressure on coach Zinedine Zidane.
“ We needed that. In any case, it ’s what we were missing in the sense that scoring seven goals at home this season, it ’s hugely satisfying , and a relief ,” said Zidane .
The win leaves Real five points behind Valencia in third, after Marcelino ’s side had two players sent off in a shock 2 - 1 loss at lowly Las Palmas on Saturday .
Real had come into Sunday ’s match in crisis following some dismal performances that culminated in last week’s defeat to Villarreal, and the mess seemed to have grown deeper when Adrian tapped home Lucas Perez’s low cross.
However , the home side reacted immediately and by half- time were 2 - 1 up thanks to Nacho ’s neat first - time strike and a superb curling effort from Bale .
The floodgates opened in the second half, with Bale adding his second from a towering header and Luka Modric expertly whipping home Real’s fourth.
– Phone check –
Ronaldo met Casemiro’s cross to make it five and then crashed home Lucas Vazquez ’s cross , taking a boot in the face from Fabian Schar in the process .
As Ronaldo was led off the pitch to have his bleeding head quickly patched up he asked to see the phone of one of Real ’s medical staff and , pointing the camera at himself , used it to check the damage to his face.
Nacho completed the rout in the dying minutes .
Second - placed Atletico Madrid ’s 1 - 1 draw with Girona on Saturday meant Barca extended their lead with victory , leaving coach Ernesto Valverde waxing lyrical about Messi.
“ You have to enjoy what Messi does — I’ve suffered against him as an opposing player and I know what it is,” he said .
“ What we saw tonight was spectacular . He ’s the best player ever .”
After a goalless first period, Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring on 59 minutes, converting a sublime pass from Suarez .
Messi thumped home the second from outside the box on 64 minutes before he and Rakitic teamed up to present Suarez with a volley on 69 minutes to effectively seal the three points.
Betis were making mistakes at the back and when Zouhair Feddal clumsily gave the ball away on halfway to Suarez , the Uruguayan sent Messi scampering away.
Faced with two defenders , Messi dummied to shoot, drifted past both and calmly slotted home past goalkeeper Antonio Adan .
There was still time for Suarez to complete his brace with a crisp finish after Messi had driven at the heart of an over- matched defence .
The only downside for the league leaders was a hamstring injury to Thomas Vermaelen in the first half that precipitated French centre - back Samuel Umtiti ’s own return from a hamstring problem.
Earlier , Joseba Zaldua scored a last - minute equaliser as Leganes came back from two goals down to draw 2 - 2 at Alaves.

Aide: Buhari’ll consider his health before deciding on second term

President Muhammadu Buhari will consider his state of health before taking the decision on whether to seek re - election in 2019 or not , his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity , Mr. Femi Adesina, stated in an interview on Sunday.
Buhari had a serious health challenge in 2017 that made him to seek medical attention outside the country twice .
On his return to the country after his first medical trip, the President stated that he had never been that sick in his life.
While answering questions on Buhari’s health status and his seeking re - election in 2019 , Adesina said the President would not do whatever he believed his health could not sustain.
Adesina said , “ The President is not a frivolous person . If he thinks that his health cannot carry anything, he will not do it .
“ Every day you see the President , you see a glow about him and you see freshness about him. I think he is even in a better state than when he came in 2015 . It’s all to the glory of God.
“ Once he assesses that his health can carry it , there ’s nothing wrong if he steps into the fray. But he has the final decision.”
The presidential spokesman urged Nigerians to wait for the President to tell them his position on the second - term issue.
On a recent media report that Buhari has re -appointed the Minister of Transportation , Rotimi Amaechi, as the Director - General of his campaign organisation , Adesina said such an appointment could only be made after a candidate had emerged .
“ I believe that things like the DG will come when you have become a candidate . If the President steps into the fray now, he is an aspirant just like any other aspirant . Having a DG comes when you become a candidate of the party ,” he argued.
He claimed Buhari had done more than enough to seek re - election, saying “The things he has done are apparent : security , despite the challenges of the moment , you can’t rule out what he has done in security.
“ Economy went into recession, stayed there just for one year, it has come out and the indices are good . Even the World Bank has projected 2 .5 per cent growth for Nigeria this year.
“ Three things he appointed for himself : one , to secure the country; two , to fight corruption ; and three, to revive the economy . They are going well .”
He reiterated Buhari’s promise to deliver free and fair elections to the country, stressing that the President fulfilled the promise in all the elections conducted under his watch .
“ You would have noticed that since this government came , there have been elections the APC didn ’t have to win . You saw Anambra . You saw a senatorial election there . Some months ago , in November , you saw the governorship election. If APC had wanted to overrun Anambra , using federal might , it would have done that to win the election.
“ Election had held in Bayelsa under this administration, the APC didn ’t do it . Ondo, the APC won fair and square. Kogi, it won fair and square. Where the APC wins , it wins . Where it loses, it loses . That’s the attitude of the President . Your party doesn’t have to win by hook or crook.”

‘I Will Hold You Responsible For Any Attack’- Angry Fayose Tell Fulani Leaders

Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, has told Serikin Fulani in the state, Muhammed Abashe, that he will be held responsible for any further attack in the state.
The governor, who was furious about the recent killing of a Tiv woman in Orin Ekiti by people suspected to be Fulani herders, said Abashe had failed in providing leadership by not stopping his kinsmen from destroying farms and attacking residents under slightest provocation.
Fayose said this on Saturday at a peace meeting with Fulani herdsmen under the aegis of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, farmers, local hunters, security agencies and representatives of the Tiv community in Ado Ekiti.
He said, “If you (Fulani herders) still want to stay among us, you must accept the responsibility to ensure that none of our peoples’ farms is destroyed by herdsmen any longer. None of our people must be killed by your men, either they are strangers or those herdsmen living among us.
“If any killing or destruction of farms of our people occurs again in that area, I will ensure that I use the law to fight you their leader on it. This is the last warning I am giving you” he said.
The governor said the activities of the Fulani herders had continued to stain the names of President Muhammadu Buhari and other notable fulani leaders in the country.
He said, “This killing is giving Fulani people a bad name. If there are no good people among them, how would General Buhari rise to be president? There are doctors, lawyers, engineers and other notable professionals among you. This is denting their names. The greatest of men are the peace makers.
“Even though President Buhari does not send people to kill, it is spoiling his name. We are to make sure the killing stops.”
The governor said he would not compromise in his efforts to shield the state from the menace of the herders.
He promised to enter into partnership to increase surveillance in the state.
“We won’t be intimidated by the terror of the few. The moment you are caught, you will face the law. The killing by fulani is worse than Boko Haram. We want one Nigeria because we have gone far. Anyone harbouring criminals will not know peace. Enough is enough! Life is sacred and must be treated as such.”
“I’m calling on the federal government to be firm, when actions are taken against this mindless individuals, this killing will stop. It is because they are taking it like a family affairs; this is not in the interest of Nigeria. Ordinary Nigerians can’t carry AK47 or pump action.
“I want you to go back home believing in one Nigeria. These are activities of criminals notwithstanding their ethnic background.”
Fayose mandated the herders to register in their location within the next three months for identity and to who to hold responsible for any issue that comes up at any location.
“Many of the Fulani herdsmen who settled down here did so without permission from anyone. No one can be living with us and we – their host – would not know who they are.
“They said some are strangers who only come briefly but we don’t want that. Now, they would register with government for a token of N5,000.
“It is not their money that we need but their identity and locality. The sum of N5,000 would be renewable after a year.
“We are sending a bill to the state assembly which would be that anyone caught and found guilty of harbouring dangerous Fulani herdsmen would be jailed for five years without an option of fine.
“So, I urge every residents in Ekiti to report anyone or stranger who is suspected to be a killer Fulani herdsman.”

SaharaReporters learned on Sunday that the rampaging herdsmen razed the palm tree plantation and yams in the farm. Falae's farm which is about 40 hectares is located at Ilado in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State. Remi Olayiwola, one of the aides to Falae confirmed the destruction in a telephone chat with our correspondent.

Mr. Olayiwola revealed that the invaders stormed the farm at 6:00 pm on Sunday and set all the crops on fire. He explained that the security operatives employed by the Afenifere leader noticed the heavy fire and immediately raised an alarm.
"The Fulani herdsmen destroyed all the Palm Oil plantation and cassava in the farm before setting everything on fire. "The destruction was deliberate because the manner at which the invaders carry out their action was very frightening and just like a reprisal attack.
"Even, as I'm speaking with you now, the people employed to work on the farm are still finding it difficult to quench the fire". He also added that Mr. Falae has already notified Governor Rotimi Akeredolu on the extent of the destructions and damages done on the farm by the herdsmen.
"Baba (Falae) has asked the Governor to also send some messages to President Muhammadu Buhari that the people of Ondo state will not allow any form of a colony for Fulani herdsmen in the state.
"So, by tomorrow (Monday) the Governor will be visiting the farm and I would like the journalists to join us and see the damages these invaders have done on the farm of an elder statesman," he said.
Moshood Raji, Personal Assistant to Mr. Falae also confirmed the attack on the farm by rampaging Fulani herdsmen. Mr. Raji disclosed that no fewer than ten of the invaders laid siege on the farm on Sunday and set the crops on fire.
"Unfortunately, they (Fulani herdsmen) ran away immediately our security on the farm noticed the fire on the farm". He added Mr. Falae had last year raised alarm over the unwholesome activities of the killer Fulani herdsmen.

UNILAG lauds President Buhari for approving TV station

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving a TV licence for the institution, UNILAG TV. The vice chancellor of the university, Prof. Oluwatoyin T. Ogundipe, made the commendation at a meeting with the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, and the Senior Special Assistant, Garba Shehu, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday.
Prof. Ogundipe expressed optimism that the TV station would enhance research-oriented education and ease communication within and outside the university campus. He said the TV station would completely alter the communication style in the university, and enhance its visibility across the continent. The vice chancellor, who was accompanied by the Chair and Head of UNILAG Mass Communication Department, Ralph Akinfeleye, said the approval of the TV station further confirmed the president’s position on promoting free press and unhindered access to information that promotes development.
“It is now on record that the present administration signed the first campus TV licence and we remain deeply grateful to the president. “The university is a brand. We want the university to be the research hub in Africa, and we are working towards being among the best three in the entire continent,’’ the vice chancellor added. Apart from the TV station, Prof. Ogundipe noted that the Federal Government’s Independent Power Plant to improve electricity was already ongoing, while the NEEDS assessment fund for training of academic staff had already been received.
Mr. Akinfeleye said it took the university 25 years to get the first campus Radio station licence, but the TV station licence was processed in three years. “It is interesting that President Buhari signed the first TV station licence for a university. We will use the TV station for pedagogical purity of education,’’ he said. Mr. Adesina, who congratulated the vice chancellor on his appointment, said Mr. Buhari was fully committed to improving the standard of education in the country.
He urged the management team to take the university to higher heights. On his part, Mr. Garba reiterated that President Buhari would always work towards creating an enabling environment for purposeful and visionary projects. “It’s a signal of the president’s clear thinking. He will never put an obstacle on the path of progress. “If you are ready with a project that will bring good to society, the president will instantly approve and support you to do it,’’ he said.

Benue: Senate gives IG 14 days to arrest killer herdsmen

The Senate at an extended plenary on Tuesday debated the killings by Fulani herdsmen in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria.
The lawmakers said their resolutions, which were later conveyed to President Muhammadu Buhari by the leadership of the National Assembly , were “ wake - up call ” to the President and the Federal Government who “must ” take urgent action on the crisis before it escalates.
They also resolved that the Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Idris , “ must ” within 14 days arrest the herdsmen suspected to have killed over 70 persons in Benue State recently .
The debate followed the consideration and adoption of the report by the Senate Ad Hoc Committee on the Review of Security Infrastructure of Nigeria, after an investigative visit to Benue last weekend .
During the debate on the matter , which lasted about six hours, members of the Senate also spoke on restructuring of the country ’s governance structure , state police and the “ cattle colonies ” being proposed by the Federal Government.
The Senate President , Bukola Saraki, in his closing remarks after the debate , asked the Federal Government to take timely and drastic steps to end the crisis.
Saraki, while hailing the panel headed by the Majority Leader, Senator Ahmad Lawan, expressed condolences of the Senate to the people and government of Benue State, especially on those who lost their lives and properties to the attacks.
He said , “ From the contributions by everybody today – we have taken our time, almost six hours just to deliberate on this issue – it is clear that this goes beyond religious or ethnic issues. It is a breakdown, really , of the security apparatus of the country . And it is a wake - up call that we must act now. Failure to act is an indictment on all of us .”
Saraki also made reference to the decision that the resolutions by the Senate must be conveyed to the President . He said the lawmakers appreciated Buhari’s invitation and meeting with the National Assembly ’s leadership on the matter.
Several lawmakers , who spoke during the debate , identified various causes of the problem and recommended various solutions , some of which they argued over.
First to speak, Senator Barnabas Gemade , who is a member of the panel and a Benue indigene , urged security agencies to take action since Governor Samuel Ortom had claimed that the suspects were known to him (the governor) and the security agencies.
He said , “ I do recall in the committee ’s interactive session with the heads of security agencies in Benue State. It is at this meeting that security personnel did inform the committee that those harbouring foreign bandits were known and they had in fact compiled a list and sent it to Abuja , and that if the ‘high leadership ’ requires to have the list they have sent to Abuja , heads of the Nigeria’s security organisations could be approached and they would provide that list .
“ I will therefore recommend that in addition to the report by the committee , this may be one of the areas that the Senate can explore.”
Next was the Deputy Senate President , Ike Ekweremadu, who urged the lawmakers to approach the matter with “ a real sense of responsibility.”
“ What we see now going on in the country is a situation of killings followed by retaliations . A responsible institution must rise to the occasion and say that enough is enough ,” Ekweremadu stated.
He added that religious and ethnic leaders who were silent on the matter were now speaking out.
The Deputy Senate President gave examples of when and how state of emergency and coup detat were used legitimately in countries where there were urgent national issues , including the Arab Springs .
He therefore recommended declaration of a state of emergency in the country, noting that it would not vacate the current political leadership of the country .
The Deputy Senate President stressed that since there were claims of aliens crossing the borders to commit the crimes, the emergency could lead to shutting the borders. This, he stated, could be justified under international laws on the doctrine of necessity.
Contributing , Senator Shehu Sani, decried that the country was faced with a crisis but Nigerians were using ethnic , religious and sectional lenses to view it , making them to see an ethnic religious and sectional image.
“ This is not the time for diplomacy; this is the time to provide leadership for a nation that is in national emergency and distraught,” he said .
Also speaking , Senator Dino Melaye said , “ What happened in Benue State has showed like never before that in this country , we live in perilous times. We live in times where justice is the scarcest commodity in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“ I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to ring the bell of justice . I call on Vice -President Yemi Osinbajo to ring the bell of justice . I call on the Nigerian Senate to ring the bell of justice .”
Also, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, said there were claims that the killers were not Fulani herders but foreigners.
“ Then if they are foreigners, they should be tagged terrorists . If we don ’t solve this, I bet you , this blame game will continue. Now , 2019 is coming and politics is by the corner. Everybody wants to play politics with everything . If IPOB was tagged a terrorist group because they were agitating, what about foreigners who come into Nigeria to kill people; and then we see them and see them as herdsmen . I don ’t believe they are herdsmen .”
A former Senate President , David Mark , who is from Benue, called for short - term and long - term solutions to the problem.
He said , “ Presently, there is no intelligence transmission between the organs, villagers and government. And if there is, government is not proactive. Nigeria is not the country with the largest number of cattle in the world , are they having all these crises in other places ?
“ There are modern ways of doing things and we must grow with time. We cannot be operating an archaic system that we have if it doesn’t fit into the modern situation.”
Meanwhile , the leadership of the Senate on Tuesday night was at the Presidential Villa to deliver the resolutions by the upper chamber of the National Assembly to President Buhari.
An impeccable source in the Senate later told
The PUNCH on Tuesday night that the Senate’s leadership , led by Saraki, met with Buhari to personally deliver the resolutions.
The source said the move was to “show the urgency that the matter required .”
The meeting, which began at about 8 .30pm, was still ongoing as of the time of filing this report .

Emir Sanusi speaks about killings, blames government

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II blamed the government for the handling of attacks against herdsmen. He claimed he has evidence that showed that 800 herdsmen were killed in Taraba. The Emir said he was a patron of the Miyetti Allah as well as the Sultan of Sokoto
The Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II has blamed the federal government for the killings in the north central part of the country. In an interview with The Punch, the emir claimed 800 herdsmen were killed in Taraba in 2017 but the government failed to take action even when he presented evidence.
He said: “Some months ago in Mambilla, in one weekend, over 800 Fulani were murdered by Mambilla militias. The papers did not even go there to cover the story. Most of those wiped out were women, infants and the elderly. “In one case, a pregnant woman was killed, her stomach was ripped open and the baby was brought out and slaughtered. I personally handed over to the Federal Government a dossier with the names and pictures of the 800 or so people slaughtered as well as the names and addresses of persons known to have participated in these acts of ethnic cleansing.
“Nothing has happened. I also ensured that authorities received video and audio evidence of senior politicians in Taraba State, who were involved in this act of genocide. No one has been arrested. Fulanis were also murdered in Kajuru and Numan. “In many of these cases it was not about conflict but militias raiding settlements to kill women and children, and then later, attacking herdsmen and slaughtering them and their cattle.” Sanusi condoled with the people of Benue for the recent herdsmen attack but rejected insinuation that the Fulani were attempting to take over the country. He said: The point I am making is that we are living in a country that has failed to protect the lives of people on all sides and bring culprits to book. Also in the case of the Fulani, there is a deliberate attempt to ‘ethnicise’ criminality, and politicians, who are total failures, have found the anti-Fulani rhetoric to be the way to get popularity.” “The Sultan of Sokoto, the Lamido of Adamawa and I have been quietly speaking to top security personnel for months; telling them that the failure to provide justice and the clear involvement of political leaders in genocide, especially in Taraba, is causing anxiety.
“The case of Taraba is particularly bad. In the days of (President Olusegun) Obasanjo, an act of cleansing, similar to the recent one, happened. A politician, who was identified by an investigative panel as a key man behind the genocide, was simply appointed state attorney general by Governor Danbaba Suntai and he made sure no one was called to account. “In the recent genocide, a top local government official, on whom there was evidence of involvement was removed, then given a political appointment in Jalingo in the Governor’s Office.” Sanusi said he has appealed to the governor of Taraba state to delay the implementation of the anti-grazing law to no avail.
He said: “I fully support all efforts to attract investment into cattle rearing. This is global best practice. Capital is put into development of ranches and grazing areas, herdsmen settle. Their cattle are healthier and fatter, they sell milk and milk products and beef, their children go to school and they are economically much better off.
“This is what we all want. But in Benue and Taraba, the approach has not been one of including and supporting and regulating herdsmen but of isolation and hate. I am happy Governor Lalong of Plateau has publicly stated that he advised Governor Ortom of Benue to tread carefully. “I can confirm that I personally spoke to Governor Darius Ishaku before his public hearings on his law and begged him to slow down until he has worked out proper implementation but he refused.”
He admitted that he, the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Katsina, the Emir of Zazzau and the Lamido of Adamawa were patrons of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria. “As I understand it when Miyetti Allah was first set up, they requested a few Fulani emirs to be their patrons in their capacity as emirs. The first grand patron was Sultan Abubakar III and he was replaced by successive sultans – Dasuki, Maccido and Saad Abubakar now. “Other patrons were emir of Kano, Lamido of Adamawa and emirs of Zazzau and Katsina, I believe. So, my predecessor was a patron and on my ascension to the throne, I became a patron. This is all nominal.
“To the best of my knowledge, Miyetti Allah has never been involved in acts of violence and has always condemned violence and called on its members to eschew violence.
“It is, however, committed to protecting the fundamental rights of herdsmen as Nigerians including constitutional right to freedom of movement and the ownership of private wealth and peaceful conduct of their business.” “Grazing routes have been taken way by politicians. We have demographic implosion in the North, desertification, reduction in water reserves and competition for resources among various aspects of agriculture – crop production, animal husbandry and fishing.
“What we see is the failure of political authority, the cynical manipulation of ethnic identity by failed governments and the impotence of our security machinery. Instead of being dragged into a debate on whether Fulani are trying to take over peoples land – which is a daft argument – let us try and bring some intelligence into this discussion on weak governance rather than emotions.” Meanwhile, the federal government appealed to the media and public commentators to exercise utmost restraint in their coverage of the fallouts of the recent farmers/herders’ clash in Benue.
The minister of information and culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, who made the appeal in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, January 13, cautioned against “incendiary comments, unrestrained use of pictures and footages that offended human sensibilities” in the coverage of the crisis, The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. Mass burial organised by the Benue state government for victims of herdsmen attack.

Jose Mourinho Explains How Getting Alexis Sanchez To Manchester United Would Change His Summer Plan

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has hinted that if they get Alexis Sanchez now, they won’t need to spend big on another attacker in the summer.
Mourinho is pushing to strike a deal with Arsenal for Sanchez, whose current deal ends in June.
United and rivals Manchester City are going head-to-head for the Chilean this month.
And after hailing the availability of Sanchez as a “fantastic opportunity” Mourinho is hoping a deal can be done with the Gunners, with the Red Devils prepared to match Arsenal’s £35million valuation for Sanchez and pay his agent, Fernando Felicevich, a £5m fee on top of that.
“Let’s say we have three targets in the summer – a defender, a midfielder and an attacking player. If in the winter you do one of the three, then in the summer you do three minus one.
“If we do something now, we don’t do it in the summer again.
“Our plan was not to have new players in January. We build a squad with this idea and I share this philosophy with Mr. Woodward and the owners.
“But if there is a fantastic opportunity on the table, you fight for that fantastic opportunity. If it happens, it happens,” Mourinho said.

OMG: Fire Guts Ogbomoso Market, Destroys Goods Worth N100M

Traders at the popular Akande and Althaoheed markets all in Ogbomoso, Oyo State are counting their loses after night fire incidents consumed goods worth over N100m at the two markets Tuesday evening.
DAILY POST gathered on Wednesday that the fire which started around 7pm at Akanda market consumed no fewer than 30 shops at the market situated at Caretaker axis of Ogbomoso.
It was also gathered that many shops at Althaoheed were also affected during the fire incident which occurred Tuesday night at the market.
One of the victims of the inferno at Akande market lamented how the occupants of the market lost everything, stressing that they couldn’t get any help from the men of the Fire Service to rescue the situation.
He said “Immediately the incident started, calls were put through to them but there was no positive response based on logistic.
“If they had come earlier, the damages wouldn’t be this much”.
A member of the state House of Assembly, representing Ogbomoso South, Barrister Solomon Akande who visited the market Wednesday morning (today) however described the incident as shocking.
Akande said he was sad that such tragic incident happened at this moment when people were managing resources.
Another member of the State House of Assembly representing Ogbomoso North, Hon. Bimbo Oladeji in her message sent to DAILY POST on Wednesday appealed to the state government to swing into action and come to the aid of the affected traders.
Oladeji said “I was shocked and sad about the fire incident at Akande and Althaoheed markets.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the market men and women.
“We appeal to the Oyo State Government to come to the aid of the affected traders”.

Marketers agree to N145, beg FG for incentives

Marketers agree to N145, beg FG for incentives

Executive Secretary, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Obafemi Olawore

Oil marketers on Wednesday agreed with the Federal Government to allow the pump price of petrol to remain at N145 per litre, reversing their previous stance on the pricing of the commodity.
On Tuesday, the Chairman , Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association , Dapo Abiodun , had stated that the marketers could no longer import petrol at a controlled price of N145 per litre.
But it was gathered in Abuja on Wednesday that the marketers reversed their stance at the meeting of the ad hoc committee set up by the Presidency to get the oil marketers to restart the importation of refined petroleum products .
Sources at the meeting told our correspondent that a communique on the resolutions reached at the meeting would be made public soon, but noted that the marketers also appealed to the Federal Government to grant them tax holidays and other incentives that would help cut their costs when they resumed fuel importation .
It was learnt that four sub - committees were constituted at the meeting, which was chaired by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu , at the ministry ’s headquarters in Abuja .
“ Four sub - committees were inaugurated by the minister and we agreed on a price that is good for Nigerians, which of course , is the current price. All these and more will be in the communique that will be released soon ,” a source who spoke to our correspondent in confidence, said .
Another source stated that the committees included those on logistics and business conduct, adding that the agreements reached at the meeting would be relayed to the Presidency before the communique would be made public.
It was also learnt that heads of some parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources were members of some of the committees.
Meanwhile , the Senate has denied an alleged claim by the Chief of Staff to the President , Abba Kyari , that the National Assembly is responsible for the delay in the payment of the debt owed oil marketers by the Federal Government.
The lawmakers denied any pending request to approve a loan for the payment of the debt by the Presidency.
The upper chamber of the National Assembly stated this on Wednesday in a statement issued by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi - Abdullahi .
The statement read in part, “The attention of the Senate has been drawn to a claim said to have been made by the Chief of Staff to the President , Mallam Abba Kyari , during a meeting with stakeholders in the oil industry on the perennial fuel scarcity in the country to the effect that the payment of debts owed oil marketers was being delayed because the National Assembly has not approved request presented to the legislature for a loan meant for that purpose.
“ The Senate will want members of the public to know that no such request has been made to it specifically requesting for a loan meant for payment to oil marketers. The Senate is aware that subsidy on petrol had been cancelled by this administration, so we wonder which payment we are talking about now .
“ Senators have been inundated with calls from oil marketers who were present at the meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President on the issue and thus, we call on Mallam Kyari to either prove his claim or retract it .”
He added, “ It should be noted that a similar claim was made by the Minister of Finance on the foreign loan at a time the Presidency had not forwarded the request . The letter requesting for the foreign loan was submitted long after she was confronted with the fact .”

🇳🇬Fire incident on Gas pipeline throws Nigerians in blackout

🇳🇬Fire incident on Gas pipeline throws Nigerians in blackout.

Nigeria’s power transmission grid collapsed on Tuesday night, a development that led to a widespread blackout across the country.
It was learnt that the collapse was due to a fire incident on the Escravos Lagos Pipeline System of the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Limited.
The incident led to a shutdown of the pipeline that supplies gas to six thermal power plants, which prompted the collapse of the country’s electricity grid at 10:20 pm on Tuesday.
This was confirmed by the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing in a statement issued around 12:44 am on Wednesday.
The ministry said it was regrettable that after a sustained period of increasing production and distribution of power since September 2017 to date, the Nigerian Gas Processing and Transportation Company Ltd reported a fire incident on its Escravos Lagos Pipeline System near Okada, Edo State on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
It said, “The sudden loss of generation due to interruption in gas supply from these stations caused the national transmission grid to trip off around 20:20 on 2nd January 2018. The national transmission grid is owned and operated by the Transmission Company of Nigeria.”
