Cristiano Ronaldo Voted Manchester United’s Best Premier League Player Of All Time

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, has been voted as Manchester United;s greatest Premier League player ever by the club’s fans as he beats Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes to the prize.
Cristiano Ronaldo has been voted Manchester United’s best ever Premier League player, but fans have been left far from impressed by the results.
United asked fans to vote on four categories to celebrate their 1,000th Premier League game on the final day of the season against Watford.
Supporters were asked for their best goal, best game and best save, alongside the title of best player to pull on a United shirt since August 1992.
The first three voted all proved relatively straightforward, with Wayne Rooney winning best goal for his acrobatic effort against Manchester City, United’s 4-3 win over their neighbours in 2009 being voted the best game, and David de Gea’s incredible save from Juan Mata in 2012 getting the nod for best save.
However, much of the chatter around the results was reserved for Ronaldo’s award, with many fans pointing out there were several United players who had contributed much more in the top flight.
Ronaldo pushed Ryan Giggs into second place, while Paul Scholes was voted third.

A number of fans took to Twitter to question the outcome, pointing to the Premier League titles Giggs and Scholes had accrued at Old Trafford, compared with the Portuguese.
And others suggested that the influence of Eric Cantona was much more important to the club than Ronaldo’s six-year stint between 2003 and 2009.
To be fair to the Real Madrid striker, he did pick up three Premier League titles, while also sweeping the board for top individual awards in 2008, winning both the Ballon d’Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year award, as well as picking up the Premier League’s golden boot for the 2007-08 season.
He will be looking to add yet more silverware to his cabinet before the end of the season, as he leads Real Madrid’s frontline against Liverpool in the Champions League final on May 26.

Wenger urges successor to ‘respect’ Arsenal values

Arsene Wenger used his farewell news conference as Arsenal manager on Thursday to urge his successor to “respect the values of the club”.
The Frenchman departs after a final game at Huddersfield Town on Sunday and was in reflective mood as he contemplated his 22 years in charge.
Speculation is intensifying over who his successor will be with British media reporting that Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri and former Arsenal captains Mikel Arteta and Patrick Vieira among leading contenders.
Asked for his advice to the new man, Wenger said: “Respect the values of the club. I would like him to bring his own ideas.
“It’s a chance for the players to see something different. But, on the other hand, I will say respect what has been built here.”
In spite of his many achievements, Wenger will depart on a low with Arsenal losing a seventh consecutive away game on Wednesday, 3-1 at Leicester City
It was their worst run in more than half-a-century.
On Sunday, Arsenal are looking to end their embarrassing record of being the only side in the top four tiers of English football not to pick up an away point this year.
Wenger, however, still believes the club is in good shape for his successor.
“The players’ attitude was great last night,” said Wenger. “They were fantastic. There is a special bond in this team.
“There is something waiting to come out that is special. Hopefully that will come out next season.”
Wenger said he is unsure about his immediate plans, but has been linked with a position as general manager at Paris St Germain (PSG).
“When you stay for such a long period, you question if it is time to go now or not,” he said.
“We live in a society where people want big change always, you know. I don’t know what I will do. Maybe go to Russia.
“I have some work to do in France (next week) on Monday, Tuesday. On Thursday, I will come back and clear my office. After that, I don’t know.”
Wenger also used the occasion to look back, saying that while he considered his 2004 ‘Invincibles’ team the best of his reign, he was at his most productive between 2006-2015.
The ‘Invincibles’ went through the 2004-2005 season unbeaten.

Don’t collect dirty notes from banks, CBN urges customers

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), yesterday blamed commercial banks in the country for sabotaging its efforts at replacing mutilated notes with new ones.
Mr. Isaac Okorafor, Acting Director, Communications Department of CBN, made the allegation in Lagos on Thursday, while reacting to lamentations of Nigerians on the preponderance of dirty and mutilated notes in the country, said the apex bank was aware of the development and had taken several measures to address it.
According to him, one of the steps taken by CBN in mopping up the mutilated notes from the system was reduction in the amount it charges banks for sorting the dirty notes for clean ones from N12,000 to N1,000 per box.
Okorafor said the reduction in charges for the commercial banks, which lasted for three months from January 2 to March 28 was to encourage them to return more dirty notes to CBN.
He said the sorting charges, which used to be N12,000 was later reduced to N2,000 per box after the March 28 deadline when the window was closed.
The CBN director said the opportunity was limited to lower denomination naira notes comprising N50, N20 and N10 notes.
Nigerians have been decrying the large scale circulation of dirty and mutilated notes, mainly in the smaller denominations of N5, N10, N20, N50 and N100 notes.
He hinted that the bank had adopted another strategy of withdrawing the unfit notes from circulation rather than depending mainly on the commercial banks on the task in view of their poor response.
Okorafor added that the CBN had started engaging associations in various markets to encourage traders to change genuine dirty notes for new ones. This, he said, would not attract any cost to traders.
“The bank has already taken the new measure to Kano, Kaduna and Abuja and also intends to bring it to the South soon,” he said.
On hoarding and selling of new currency notes, Okorafor said the serial numbers of the mint ones given out to the public would be used to track whosoever perpetuates such act. He, however, appealed to Nigerians to handle the national currency with care as it is a symbol of identity and value which should be handled with respect.
Okorafor urged the public to always demand for new notes instead of collecting dirty notes from banks.

Danfo Driver duo calls out Tekno for Stealing Their Song ‘Jogodo’

Tekno has been accused by Ajegunle music stars, Danfo Drivers, who said they are angry with the Pana crooner for using their song without their permission.
This was revealed at the Headies 2018 during an interview with the music duo and one of them who mostly spoke stated that it was really disheartening for him to see that Tekno has used their song “Jogodo”, which was a hit during the early 2000 when it was first released has been released again by Tekno without their knowledge. But according to them, what is mostly painful is the fact that no credit whatsoever was given to the or permission taken from them.
He went on to state that the only reason this happened was because they weren’t in Lagos but now that they’re back, Tekno should be ready for him.
In his words:
“Tekno dey owe us money o… Tekno dey make us vex and if I catch am e no go like me… you just come dey carry pessin song dey go dey sing… God save am because we no dey Lagos, now set we don enter Lagos, na because of Tekno we don come here… if I catch am…”

No federal varsity should charge tuition, FG insist

The Federal Executive Council on Wednesday reiterated the tuition- free status of federal universities nationwide.
The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Anwuka , disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the council ’s meeting presided over by Vice -President Yemi Osinbajo.
“ The FEC restated government’s position that no federal university should charge tuition fees ,” Anwuka said .
He said government would investigate some universities accused of flouting the law.
The minister, however , said various universities ’ councils and managements were free to fix “ auxiliary fees” which must be affordable and acceptable to students.
He said , “FEC discussed the issue of school fees in the various universities and noted that, as of law, no federal university should charge tuition fees .
We understand that some universities now charge fees per course unit and we are going to make sure that we investigate that properly and make sure it stops .
“ Students can pay other auxiliary fees , but not in excess .
“ Various university councils and management should be able to fix what fees students should pay that are affordable and acceptable to the students. That is the position .
“ The Federal Government does not determine fees for private and state universities, we only take responsibility for fees paid in the federal universities .”

After Third Snub In Two Weeks, Senate Declares IGP Idris 'Enemy Of Democracy'

“The refusal of the IG to appear before an investigative committee as also ruled by a court of competent jurisdiction is a great danger to our democracy,” Saraki said. "Therefore, the Senate resolves to declare the IGP as an enemy of democracy and not fit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria."
For the third time in less than two weeks, Inspector General of Police Ibrahim Idris has again failed to honour the invitation of the Senate to give reasons for the arrest and detention of Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West, and also speak on insecurity in the country.
This has prompted the Senate to declare him “an enemy of democracy” who is “unfit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria”.
Idris was first summoned on April 25 but he failed to appear, instead accompanying President Muhammadu Buhari on an official visit to Borno State.
He was summoned for the second time to appear on May 2 but he again failed to honour it, delegating Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Operations) Joshak Habila, whom the Senate refused to entertain.
And for the third time on Wednesday, Idris ignored the summons.
Speaking on this development during the plenary, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe described the IGP’s behaviour as an indication that democracy in the country is dying a slow death.
“What is happening today in Nigeria shows that democracy is dying bit by bit and also shows the abuse of power and office by the IG,” he said. “What the IG is doing in the eyes of the world shows that there is no respect for the law.”
Senator Ahmad Lawan said: “It is very unusual for a public servant to act like this. I have never see this before anywhere in the world; we need to take a decision because this affects security in the entire country."
Senator Isah Misau referred to Idris as an incompetent individual not fit for office, saying: "What the IGP is doing is not against the Senate but against the presidency that appointed him into office; it's unfortunate. The IG is not competent to be in the office.”
Another senator added: "This is unacceptable and disrespectful. It requires immediate action and I think this Senate needs to take serious action in looking for a way forward.”
Bukola Saraki, President of the Senate, described Idris’s action as “disrespectful to the institution and constitutional authority”.
“The refusal of the IG to appear before an investigative committee as also ruled by a court of competent jurisdiction is a great danger to our democracy,” he said.
"Therefore, the Senate resolves to declare the IGP as an enemy of democracy and not fit to hold any public office within and outside Nigeria."

Fayemi Denies Walking Out Of APC Leaders’ Meeting

Fayemi, had left the meeting summoned to find a solution to the debacle of choosing one of the 33 aspirants as APC’s candidate for the election scheduled for July following the disruption of a primary organized for the purpose at Ado Ekiti last Saturday mid-way.
Dr. Kayode Fayemi, one of those seeking for the ticket of All Progressives Congress to contest in the Ekiti State gubernatorial election has denied reports that he walked out of the meeting between leaders of the party and some of the aspirants convened in Abuja on Tuesday.
Fayemi, had left the meeting summoned to find a solution to the debacle of choosing one of the 33 aspirants as APC’s candidate for the election scheduled for July following the disruption of a primary organized for the purpose at Ado Ekiti last Saturday mid-way.
This fueled speculations that he walked out of the meeting.
But in a statement on Wednesday, the former governor said that there was no basis for him to storm out of the meeting.
However, he confirmed that he could not make the second part of the meeting and thus, took permission from the party leaders to attend another meeting.

Tax-compliant Nigerians hit 19 million, Osinbajo claims

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo on Wednesday revealed that the number of tax- compliant Nigerians increased from 14 million in May 2017 to 19 million this year.
Osinbajo, who was the special guest of honour at the 2018 edition of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria conference, said that as of December 2017 , only 943 Nigerians paid self - assessed taxes of less than N1 m, reports Nigerian Tribune.
“ Earlier, I noted that as of May 2017 , only 14 million economically active Nigerians pay taxes.
“ I am pleased to note that the number is now in excess of 19 million and still growing.
“ This means that efforts led by the Federal Inland Revenue Service in collaboration with many of the states inland revenue services have already added more than five million new taxpayers to the tax base .
“ But there is still a lot of work ahead of us ; as Nigeria races to catch up with the rest of the world in terms of tax compliance we all have a role to play in this.’’

BREAKING: Loud Booms Heard In Saudi Capital

(NAN) Four consecutive loud booms were heard in Saudi Arabia’s capital Riyadh on Wednesday, Reuters witnesses said.
There was no immediate comment from Saudi authorities.
Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi movement said it fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at the Saudi capital on Wednesday – an attack Saudi authorities said they intercepted in the skies over the city.
The assault comes a day after Saudi Arabia’s top ally the United States pulled out of an international deal with Iran over its disputed nuclear programme and could signal an uptick in tensions between regional rivals Riyadh and Tehran.
The Houthis said the missiles were launched at economic targets in Riyadh, the group’s al-Masirah TV reported. At least four blasts were heard in the city centre, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
The Houthis have fired a series of missiles into neighbouring Saudi Arabia in recent months, part of a three-year-old conflict in Yemen widely seen as a proxy battle between the Saudis and Iran.
A spokesman for the Houthi-aligned military Colonel Aziz Rashed told al-Masirah TV channel that the attack on the capital and another area marked “a new phase” and was revenge for Saudi air strikes on Yemen.
“There will be more salvos until this enemy is deterred, understands the meaning of the Yemeni threat and ceases its crimes,” Rashed said.
He did not mention U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision, hours earlier, to pull out of the international nuclear accord with Iran. But there have been fears the U.S. pull-out could exacerbate the conflict in Yemen and other regional flashpoints.
Saudi Arabia and other U.S. allies queued up on Wednesday to praise Trump’s decision, as did Yemen’s government, which has been forced into exile by Houthi advances in their country.
The Yemeni government said the U.S. withdrawal as a necessary step to stop Iran’s “destabilising and dangerous” behaviour. “The Iranian regime has exploited the benefits of the nuclear agreement to export violence and terrorism to its neighbours,” it said in a statement.
Saudi state media said separately that air defence forces had intercepted a missile launched at the southern city of Jizan, in an attack also claimed by the Houthis.
“This hostile action by the Houthi militia backed by Iran proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime,” coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki was quoted as saying by state news agency SPA.
Iran, he added, aimed “to threaten the security of Saudi Arabia as well as regional and international security”.
A Saudi-led military coalition intervened in Yemen’s civil war in 2015 to try and push back the Houthis after they ousted the internationally recognised government.
Iran and the Houthis have regularly dismissed Saudi accusations that Tehran is arming the group.
In recent months, Yemen’s Houthis have targeted the Saudi capital several times with missiles the Saudi military has said it intercepted.
